DanicaDanica Sue Patrick, an American ex-professional racing driver. She is the most successful female in American open-wheel car racing history. Her victory in the Indy Japan 300 was her first victory. She quit high school with permission from her parents in 1998, and then moved to the United Kingdom to further her career. Patrick raced in Formula Vauxhall, Formula Ford before returning to the United States in 2001. In 2002 she raced in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races for Rahal Letterman Racing. Patrick was a Toyota Atlantic Series racer for the next two seasons. Her best effort was when she finished third in championship standings for the 2004 season where she became the first female to win a pole position in the series.She began her career in the IndyCar Series with Rahal Letterman Racing in 2005 and took three pole positions. This was the same as Tomas Scheckter's record for poles in her rookie season. She was named the IndyCar Series rookie of the year for 2005, and also won the Indianapolis 500. She improved in the subsequent two seasons, racing with Rahal Letterman Racing 2006, and then Andretti Green Racing 2007. Patrick placed sixth in the drivers' standings after her victory in Japan. Her performance improved to place fifth in the drivers' standings following the season. This was her most impressive performance in the Indianapolis 500 and a career-high for Patrick. Patrick's overall form declined during the year, but she was able to finish second at oval tracks before she left IndyCar following the 2011 season to focus solely on stock car racing.
